Passionflower is thought to affect the passions, perhaps because of its name, its showy, sweet-scented flowers, which are of Venus, and its twining habit. It is often used in amulets and charms for love magick, in that case inciting passions, but it also serves to calm passions. It can be sprinkled at thresholds to protect the home from disruptions, and in a dream pillow, it will help give quiet dreams. Perhaps because of its Venus rulership, some believe that carrying passionflower in a charm bag will encourage friendship from others.
The calming effect of this herb in magick coincides with its calming effect in herbalism. When used as a single herb, passionflower is mildly sedating (which some say puts it in Moon).
